  • I've tried earplugs before and they haven't worked - will AirDrate work for me?

Yes! Other earplugs are intended to relieve or filter pressure but have been shown scientifically not to work. The earplug would have to be a completely pressurised fit and as soon as you slightly move this fit breaks. AirDrate addresses the true core of the problem and helps the ear naturally deal with the changes in pressure as it should by keeping the eardrum flexible and preventing ear pain during flight.

  • Are AirDrate Rehydrating Ear Plugs easy to use?
    • Yes! Just see instructions here.

  • My pain starts on take-off, can I use AirDrate earplugs on take-off?

AirDrate earplugs were developed to prevent the pain first felt on descent and this was clinically proven to work. We can't guarantee that they will help for take-off as there may be other causes for the pain than the ears being dehydrated. For instance if you have had many severe episodes of Airplane Ear in the past your eardrums could be damaged and scarred so will not flex to allow for the pressure changes, even if rehydrated. We do however have some customers that have found the earplugs helped them so it may be worth trying them. For take-off open the sealed tray and place in the ears as soon as you get on the plane, before the doors are closed (which is when the first pressure change will occur). Once the seatbelt sign comes off you can remove them and discard responsibly, as the plane will be in cruise. unless your whole flight is less than 4 hours, which is the life effectiveness of the earplugs once out of the sealed tray. In this case you can leave one pair in for the duration of the flight. If the flight is longer than 4 hours you will need to use the second pair for the descent, placing in ears 1 hour before you land, . We continue to research to find a definite solution for pain on take-off so please do let us know how you get on as the more data we have the better and you may be able to help us test in the future.

  • The pack says age 10 and up, can younger children use AirDrate earplugs?

The age on the pack of 10+ is for use unsupervised. We have found the earplugs safe to use and effective from age 6 but use must be supervised by an adult. Fit should be fine for this age up but if you would like a sample earbud to check size before ordering just contact us here and we'll send you one free of charge. Not at all suitable for under 6 due to small parts.

  • Why can't I reuse AirDrate Airplane Ear Plugs?

AirDrate Rehydrating Earplugs are a single use product due to the innovative materials used (as well as for hygiene issues). Once out of the inside packaging they only have an approximately 4 hour life effectiveness, depending on environment, and won’t work if reused after this.

  • My Eustachian tube is damaged can I use AirDrate Rehydrating Airplane Ear Plugs?

  • Do I need to declare AirDrate Rehydrating Airplane Ear Plugs at Airport security?
    • No! There is no need to declare at security and you can take in your cabin bag with no problem.

  • Why don't AirDrate Rehydrating Airplane Ear Plugs reduce noise levels?

AirDrate Rehydrating Earplugs were developed specifically to prevent Airplane Ear pain when flying. As aviators we are especially aware of aircraft safety that recommends you are able to hear any safety announcements as soon as they are made.

  • Can I wear earphones over the top of AirDrate Airplane Ear Plugs?
    • Yes! You can put earphones over the top of AirDrate Airplane Ear plugs with no problem, just make sure you can still hear the safety announcements!

  • Why do only some people suffer from Airplane Ear pain and not others?

We believe from our research that people with smaller anatomy of the internal ear workings can tend to suffer more. If the eardrum is smaller itself, it may dry out quicker and / or have less ability to flex. We are continuing to conduct research into this.

  • Why do I only suffer from Airplane Ear on some flights and not others?

As a result of various conditions such as weather, air traffic management and geography for example, every landing has a different rate of descent. The faster (steeper) the rate of descent the quicker the pressure changes and the shorter time the eardrum has to flex/stretch to deal with this.

  • So can I just drink more water before and during the flight to counteract the problem?

Unfortunately it doesn’t work like this... A bit like drinking lots of water won’t immediately cure a dry skin problem. It’s always a good idea to keep hydrated with water during a flight anyway though!

  • Can I just put water in my ears then?

If you’ve ever suffered from water trapped in ears when flying or Swimmers ear then you will understand why we really don’t recommend this! AirDrate Rehydrating Earplugs use materials and fluid especially developed over many years, so as not to make the ears feel excessively wet with the problems that can cause, yet still rehydrate the eardrum to prevent Airplane Ear pain.
